The Good, The Bad, and The...Ugly?

Art has always inspired me. I don't think I'll ever become one of those amazing artists who has swanky gallery shows. I do, however, adore attending an art opening. I can't tell you how many times I have looked at a piece of art and thought, "Oh Jesus Christ, not the red dot on white canvas shit again." Let me first note, I am not an art snob. I have a few (okay ten) years of art/design knowledge, but it does not matter how much education you've gathered over the years. If a piece moves you, it moves you...if not...well...then it doesn't. Sometimes you'll see styles/ideas repeated over and over...sometimes you'll meet an artist who doesn't want to hear your opinion cuz, "they gots their shit already figured out." (Btw: If an artist thinks they know all the hidden secrets to their work, then they shouldn't consider themselves an artist). Art can make you weak in the knees like an amazing first kiss. It'll sneak up on you, somehow manage to steal your breath, and then leave you wanting more. That. Yes That. Is a good piece of art.

On Thursday I was lucky enough to have attended a show featuring Albert Reyes. It was at the Pacific Design Center and titled
Albert Reyes: Never Dies The Dream. I met Albert years ago through a mutual friend (isn't that how everyone in LA meets?) and have always been a fan. Besides being one of the kindest souls on earth (he doesn't care how cool or hip you are, he's for real, yo.) His illustrations are intense with a lovely dash of comedic relief...
(Sorry about the glare. I was using an iphone)

While at the PDC, we were able to wander around and sneak in and out of galleries. I was surprised at how many large, beautiful, open spaces were not being utilized. Hello, economy?

Below are a few pieces that blew my mind, well, maybe not blew my mind, but I did feel a weak knee here and there.

Charley with the metal origami dog

Two Headed Bambi, awwww

I just liked his gold shoulder purse

Woof.
